Boeing B314 - The Clipper in FS2004 "Century of Flight"
Generally speaking Boeing B 314 - The Clipper fits perfectly into FS2004. A historic aircraft in a historic SIM.
Yes, the B314 *IS* working in the new FS2004. For installation please copy your fs2002.cfg into your FS2004 root directory. You can in fact copy any file into your FS2004 root directory and rename it fs2002.cfg. It is only necessary that a file with this name is present. We have prepared a dummy FS2002.cfg here for your download. Unzip it into your FS2004 directory. You will also find detailed descriptions for installation in this file.
A file with the name fs2000.cfg is already present by default. It is installed by FS2004 during setup and used for compatibility reasons. Unfortunately our suggestion to also have a fs2002.cfg file present (which is necessary for many add-on installations) has been rejected by MS though it would not have been a big deal.
Then run setup.exe as you would do normally. When you are asked for the target directory, type the location of your FS2004 COF installation (typically this will be c:\programs\microsoft games\flight simulator 9) or browse to the directory by clicking on the three dots just right besides the dialog field. See the picture here for details.
We have found, that FS2004 gives the B314 a much more realistic flight model. It marks the "heavyness" of the AC much better, which was in fact the matter in reality. Weather, temperature and load were the most important points for getting airborne. It even cruised at just 500ft until enough fuel was eaten to climb. So for long haul flights you will need to make very carefull flight planning including fuel and payload (which is much better to handle in FS2004 than in FS2002). You will need to unload the aircraft if you want her to climb as in FS2002.
We may release a Service Pack which utilizes all advancements of FS2004 later this year.
